The 2 Month Visit

Well. We are home from our two month appointment, and it went really well.
I wanted to share what happened.
Our appointment was early afternoon, so the baby got a nap in before hand, no crankiness there- in fact she was in good spirits as she was weighed and measured- save for trying to roll away from the nurse.
We waited for the doctor who was thrilled that she had gained 2 lbs (she went from 7-9!), and asked questions like did she smile, coo, follow objects, reach/ grab, yet?

He was pleased that she does.

Next he examined her, and this is when I asked about the fact that she seems like she is teething and drools/ fusses, and she really likes chewing on teethers and her fingers, too.
He took a look and felt around in her gums, then a cofirmed that she is
Pre teething.

Apparently, that is when the baby has teeth wanting to come in, but they're not quite officially "popped" yet, at least that's what he told me.

He also said no orajel yet, until the recommended time-- 4 months!

Rats.

He did the usual comb over and shine a light in her eyes, before he went through the vax list with me (he actually has nor offered me no list, just by mouth.)

Basically she only got 2 shots, the dTap and Pneumococcal, he said the HIB vaccine wasn't on his list right now, and that Polio wasn't part of his current schedule- so Little Bit had two less pokes.

The RotaVirus was given orally.

He then warned me about fever and pains, fussiness and diarrhea, then schooled me that she is too young for Tylenol- he doesn't recommend it until 3 months old.

The pedi did not administer the shots, he simply had me sign for them, asked to see me at 4 months old, and away he went.

The nurse came in after him with the needles and the oral meds, and my poor baby was smiling and talking up a storm before they stuffed the liquid in her mouth.

It must have tasted awful

She made a funny face and looked up at me like she wanted to scream, but she didn't.

They recommended her lay straight out when I asked to hold her, they said if her legs were lying out flat on the bed it was less painful; so I accepted that and just held her handle.

She got dTap first Pneumococcal second, and screamed in between, then wailed at the second.

I asked the nurse how soon the shots would be effect, she said there a no hard and fast rule, but she suggested giving her a day or two to see if she was going to get sick, run a fever or whatever, before doing too much.. She's going to need lots of rest.

We've been home about 3 hours, she cried on the walk outside then fell asleep. When we got to the house she woke up and had her bottle, played awhile with her playmat, then cried for about an hour

Then she took a nap.

So far I have not noticed any fever, and I massaged her legs which she seems to like, but ultimately...
She's fussy.

All in all, we had a good experience, and I hope that she recovers quick and stays healthy until her next round.
